EIS – PROPOSED INSTALLATION AND CONSTRUCTION OF A 50MW SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC PROJECT IN MBALA DISTRICT, NORTHERN PROVINCE OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA

Mbala Solar Energy Limited (MSEL) proposes to develop a utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant with an integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Mbala District, Northern Province, Zambia. The project forms part of Zambia’s national strategy to diversify the energy mix, enhance energy security, and promote climate-resilient and low-carbon development. In accordance with the Environmental Management Act No. 12 of 2011 (as amended) and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) was undertaken to evaluate potential environmental and social impacts associated with the proposed development and to propose appropriate mitigation and management measures. Crownbit Environmental Solutions Limited was engaged by MSEL to conduct the ESIA in line with national regulatory requirements and international good practice.
