Today, the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, through ZEMA, held the second stakeholder engagement, bringing together players across the plastics value chain to explore partnerships and identify practical solutions for sustainable plastic waste management.
The engagement builds on the initial consultations and forms part of efforts to review and strengthen the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Regulations, SI No. 65 of 2018, with a focus on improving producer accountability, waste collection, recovery and recycling.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Dr. Gilbert Siame, said:
“In our Grow Zambia Agenda, a quest for more jobs, increased GDP and a better life for all Zambians, the environment remains core.”
He emphasised that plastic waste management is among the country’s major environmental challenges and requires an intentional and coordinated approach.
Together, we can turn plastic waste into opportunity!
