Proposed Luchenene Hydropower Plant in The Mpika District Muchinga Province, Zambia

The Mutinondo Luchenene Power Company Limited (MLPC) proposes to develop a hydropower plant (HPP) on the Luchenene River in Muchinga Province, Zambia. The HPP will generate energy which will be fed into the electrical grid of Zambia’s main power utility, ZESCO Limited (ZESCO). The proposed Luchenene HPP project will be a run-of-river scheme, with storage for daily peaking operations. The plant will have a gross head of 373.5 m, design discharge of 12 m3/s, generating capacity of 36 MW and a proposed annual energy production of 142 Gigawatt hours. Development of ancillary infrastructure associated with the proposed HPP will include electrical transmission lines, new access roads, and upgrades to existing roads.
