Konige Mining & Exploration Limited is a Zambian owned private Company incorporated on May 26th, 2020. In its quest for growth Konige Mining & Exploration Limited acquired a Large-Scale Exploration Licence in Mumbwa District on License No. 32705-HQ-LEL. The company is proposing to conduct open pit mining for Copper and Gold on License No. 32705-HQ-LEL with an area of 5385.4764 hectares but only 1555 hectares of land will be utilized for mining activities in Butinti area of Mumbwa District, Central Province.
The Mumbwa District represents an interesting example of a Cambrian orogenic mineralized system, with copper (±Copper and Gold) mineralization associated with hydrothermal iron oxides, breccias and veins (Cikin and Drysdall, 1971; Robertson, 2013). The district has unexplored mining and quarrying potentials due to lack of large-scale investment in the sector. The mining industry has been the economic and social backbone of Zambia since the first major phase of exploitation of the Copperbelt’s Cu-Co deposits commenced in the early 1930’s.
In line with the provisions of the Environmental Management (Amendment) Act No. 8 of 2023 as read with the Environmental Management Act No. 12 of 2011 of the Laws of Zambia and its subsidiary legislation, the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations S.I. No. 28 of 1997. An Environmental and
Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the proposed Open Pit Mine project by Konige Mining & Exploration Limited has been prepared and the company has engaged Tsalach Global Limited to undertake the ESIA study on their behalf. The ESIA of the project will involve incorporating views, concerns and contributions from interested and affected parties (stakeholders). Site location suitability studies for the project within the project area and the proposed Buntiti area catchment and ecological surveys of the project area will be conducted to determine the feasible design of the proposed project.
