Velos Enterprises (Z) Ltd proposes to develop a copper mine and processing plant in Kabulashishi, Mpokota Village in Chief Bunda Bunda’s Chiefdom in Rufunsa District in the Lusaka Province of Zambia. The proposed project is a large-scale copper mining project. The mining project has a planned life-span of 10 years and will involve the mining of copper. Other accessory minerals which are being sought after are manganese, silver, cobalt, diamond and gold. The main mining techniques to be used will be conventional open pit mining. There has been significant illegal mining activity on the licence 33470-HQ-LEL tenement, which has resulted in the removal of a large volume of material from the Mine Pit. The
material consisted of both overburden and Copper ore which according to the Topographic Survey and Land Cover Assessment for 33470-HQ-LEL study that was carried out by the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development Mines Development Department Survey Unit amounted to 37712 cubic metres in total. These illegal mining activities were a violation of the mining regulations MMDA of 2015 and environmental management act of 2011.
