ESIS – DEVELOPMENT OF A 70MW KITUMBA SOLAR POWER PLANT AT FARMNO, F/11667 WITHIN THE BIGGER CONCESSION AREA (D-BLOCK) INCHIEF KAINDU’S CHIEFDOM OF MUMBWA DISTRICT IN CENTRALPROVINCE-ZAMBIA BY VISHA SUPPLIERS LIMITED

This Environmental and Social Impact Statement (ESIS) Report has been prepared for the proposed development of a 70MW Kitumba Solar Power Plant at Farm No, F/11667 within the Bigger Concession Area (D-Block) in Chief Kaindu’s Chiefdom of Mumbwa District in Central Province-Zambia by Visha Suppliers Limited.
It has been prepared in accordance with the Environmental Management Act No. 12 of 2011 and its accompanying Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations, which mandates that all Projects listed in the Second Schedule of the EIA regulations are subjected to a full Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA).
The proposed development of a 70MW Kitumba Solar Power Plant at Farm No, F/11667 within the Bigger Concession Area (D-Block) in Chief Kaindu’s Chiefdom of Mumbwa District in Central Province-Zambia by Visha Suppliers Limited is subject to environmental and social regulatory requirements set by the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA). In accordance with the Environmental Management Act No. 12 of 2011 and its accompanying Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations, the proposed Project is listed in the Second Schedule of the EIA regulations in Section 8 for Electrical Infrastructures and the requires that any electricity generation station should be subjected a full Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA). Therefore, the core focus of this report is the proposed 70MW Kitumba Solar Power Plant Project during construction and operation of a solar power generation facility to be connected to the existing ZESCO substation. However, the transmission line component remains undefined at this stage. As such, this report covers only the solar plant infrastructure and associated components, and a full ESIA is being undertaken to ensure compliance with national environmental regulations.
