This report presents the updated Environmental and Social Impact Statement (ESIS) for the proposed construction and operation of 150MW solar pv power plant including construction of a 29.6 km of 220kv lines, which shall follow the Kafue Town – Nampundwe 132kv line existing wayleave from the proposed solar plant site at Mukata area in Chinyanya of Kafue District. The proposed project is being proposed by Seven Yrds Africa.
Sevenyrds Africa Limited previously conducted a separate ESIA for a 50 MW solar plant in the Kafue Chanyanya in 2023 and this was submitted under Seven Yrds Group. However, the developer’s name has since changed to Sevenyrds Africa Limited. The said ESIA for 50MW Solar Plant was reviewed by the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA), and the Agency issued Assessment Forms for the required statutory payments, which 7YRDS subsequently paid. The ESIA for the 50 MW Solar Plant was
ultimately approved by ZEMA through the issuance of a Decision Letter for the project to proceed to Construction Stage. However, due to increased energy demand in Zambia, 7YRDS has not only decided to upgrade the solar plant’s capacity from 50 MW to 150MW and to include construction of a 29.6 km of 220kv overhead transmission line, but it has also decided that the upgrade be submitted under its newly incorporated Seven Yrds Africa Limited as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) under the same terms and conditions for the implementation of the proposed project.
