The Zambia Environmental Management Agency (“ZEMA”) is a statutory body established under the Environmental Management Act (“EMA”) No. 12 of 2011 whose mandate is to do all such things as are necessary to ensure the sustainable management of natural resources, protection of the environment, and the prevention and control of pollution. In pursuance of its mandate, ZEMA is now inviting applications from qualified Zambian citizens to fill the following positions;
1.0. POSITION ONE: ICT TECHNICIAN – INFRASTRUCTURE AND BRANCH SUPPORT
DUTY STATION: HEAD OFFICE, LUSAKA
Job Purpose
To provide comprehensive technical support and maintenance for ICT infrastructure and systems across the Agency’s branches, ensuring optimal operational efficiency, security, and reliability of all information and communication technology resources to support the Agency’s environmental management objectives.
1.1. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports directly to the Manager ICT.
1.2. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The main duties and responsibilities of the ICT Technician – Infrastructure and Branch Support include:
- Installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting computers, printers, scanners, UPS units and related ICT equipment;
- Providing on-site and remote technical support to branch-office users;
- Troubleshooting internet connectivity, local area networks, Wi-Fi, routers and VPN connections;
- Installing approved operating systems, applications, antivirus software and security updates;
- Undertaking scheduled preventive maintenance of ICT equipment;
- Supporting the deployment, movement and replacement of ICT equipment;
- Maintaining accurate records of ICT assets assigned to branch offices;
- Monitoring branch ICT equipment and connectivity and reporting recurring or significant problems;
- Liaising with internet service providers and other ICT vendors under the supervision of the ICT Manager;
- Documenting branch network configurations, equipment installations, faults and resolutions;
- Educating users on basic equipment care, cybersecurity and acceptable use of ICT resources; and
- Performing any other ICT support duties assigned by the ICT Manager.
2.0. POSITION TWO: ICT TECHNICIAN – SERVICE DESK AND APPLICATION SUPPORT
DUTY STATION: HEAD OFFICE, LUSAKA
Job Purpose
To deliver effective helpdesk support and application troubleshooting services by providing timely technical assistance to users, resolving ICT-related issues, and ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of the Agency’s software applications and IT systems to enhance productivity and operational efficiency.
2.1. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports directly to the Manager ICT.
2.2. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The main duties and responsibilities of the ICT Technician – Service Desk and Application Support include:
- Receiving, recording, categorising and following up ICT support requests;
- Providing first-line support for computers, printers, email, Microsoft 365 and standard office applications;
- Providing first-line user support for e-ZEMA and other Agency business systems;
- Assisting with the creation, modification and deactivation of user accounts in accordance with approved access procedures;
- Installing and configuring computers, approved applications and mobile devices;
- Escalating network, server, database, application and cybersecurity incidents to the appropriate ICT officer or service provider;
- Assisting users with basic GIS applications, data preparation and reporting tools where required;
- Maintaining ICT asset, software-licence and user-access records;
- Assisting with equipment issuance, transfers, returns and stock verification;
- Preparing simple user guides, technical instructions and frequently asked questions;
- Conducting basic ICT orientation and user-awareness sessions;
- Monitoring unresolved support requests and communicating progress to users;
- Documenting common technical problems and their solutions;
- Supporting ICT inventory exercises and routine equipment inspections; and
- Performing any other ICT support duties assigned by the ICT Manager.
2.3. Minimum Qualification and Experience:
- Full Grade 12 Certificate with 5 credits or better, English and Mathematics inclusive
- Bachelor’s degree required with a preference towards Information and Communication Technology, Information Systems and Computer Science.
- The candidate should have good user-support and communication skills, with practical knowledge of Windows, Microsoft, Linux and common business applications.
- Exposure to databases, GIS, reporting tools, help-desk systems or cybersecurity practices would be an added advantage.
- Should have a strong information systems background supplemented with practical experience in IT operations.
- Age limit must be 45 years or below.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in a similar role
2.4. Must also have the following demonstrated abilities:
- Ability to handle complex problems and multitask.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to accurately and succinctly communicate complex ideas.
