There has been increasing global concern and awareness on environmental issues since the first United Nations Conference on the Environment held in Stockholm in 1972. The multidisciplinary nature of environmental issues coupled with the fragmentation of data and information across sectors and institutions makes it critical to harness scientifically credible data to support decision making at all levels. To achieve this, collection and analysis of comprehensive and credible environmental information relevant to policymaking is important.
