PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT OF A GOLD AND COPPER MINE IN CHIEF NONDO’S AREA IN SENGA HILL DISTRICT, NORTHERN PROVINCE OF ZAMBIA UNDER LARGE SCALE MINING LICENCE NO. 40509-HQ-LMLBY MADAR MINING ZAMBIA LIMITED

This document presents the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed development of an open pit Gold and Copper Mine in Chief Nondo’s Area in Senga Hill District in the Northern Province of Zambia by Madar Mining Zambia Limited (MMZL). The EIS is a government document that outlines the impact of a proposed project on its surrounding environment. It gives a description of the proposed project, which is the development of a Gold and Copper Mine under Large Scale Mining Licence No. 40509-HQ-LML owned by MMZL. MMZL has identified potential negative and positive environmental and social impacts associated with the proposed project following a preliminary assessment of the project components and their interactions with the existing baseline conditions.

MMZL is proposing to mine by open pit method the gold and copper deposit discovered in Chief Nondo’s Area of Senga Hill District in Northern Province of Zambia. It also plans to set up a processing plant to concentrate the ore for export. This Environmental Impact Statement has been prepared by DN Consulting Associates Limited (DNCAL) on behalf of MMZL, to comply with the regulatory requirements as provided for under the Environmental Management Act, 2011, the Mines and Minerals Development Act, 2008. This document is the result of data collection and analysis of environmental factors by several specialists approved by Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA). The implementation of the findings and recommendations of this document will ensure that the proposed development is carried out in a manner that will prevent, and where prevention is not possible, minimize adverse environmental and social impacts.
