ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT FOR THE EXISTING COMMERCIAL FARM PROJECT ON FARM NO.2872

Introduction
Waikato Agri Limited (WAL) started its operations in 2011. The size of the farm is 1400ha
of which 265ha is under cultivation and 1106ha is uncultivated. Despite the farm being in
existence since 2011 it did not undergo an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment
(ESIA). In its quest to comply with the laws, specifically, the Environmental Management
Act (EMA) of 2011, WAL has initiated ESIA studies for its farm operations and facilities.
WAL is situated 30km North of Mkushi Boma on Great North Road. The main crops grown
on the farm are: maize; soya beans; wheat and barley. WAL also keeps cattle mainly for
beef.

The farmland has committed the area as follows:

Irrigated area 240ha
Dryland cropping 25ha
Improved pasture 200ha
Indigenous forests, mountain, dambo 906ha
