  1. Job Purpose:

Under the Supervision of the Manager-Laboratory Services, the position holder is responsible for the day to-day supervision of the analysis of environmental samples, development and validation of methods and ensuring quality control and compliance with regulatory standards with the guidance of the Laboratory Manager. In collaboration with the Manager Laboratory, provide input in the Planning, budgeting, developing and implementing laboratory services.

  1. Main Duties and Accountabilities (without limitation)
  1. Oversee daily laboratory operations, including sample receipt and analysis.
  2. Conduct both physical and chemical analyses of environmental samples (water, soil, air e.tc) received and related substances to strengthen compliance and enforcement;
  3. Ensure accurate record of the results are kept and validated;
  4. Develop and maintain a laboratory database for reference;
  5. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure availability of laboratory equipment and reagents and other related consumables;
  6. Participate in analytical research with other stakeholders;
  7. Operate and maintain advanced laboratory equipment such as Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer, EXDRF Spectrometer and Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometer;
  8. Perform quality control checks and troubleshoot instrumental issues and;
  9. Interpret and report analytical results.
  10. Supervise and train junior laboratory staff;
  11. Coordinate laboratory operations and workflows;
  12. Provide input in the development and implementation of the laboratory Standard Operating Procedures;
  13. Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback;
  14. Participate in laboratory accreditation and auditing processes;
  15. Assist in budget planning and resource allocation;
  16. Participate in laboratory meetings and training sessions;
  17. Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and compliance with existing regulations and standards;
  18. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changing regulatory requirements;
  19. Provide technical guidance and support to clients as needed;
  1. Job Qualification, Skills and Experience
  1. Grade 12 school certificate
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field, and
  3. Demonstratable experience in Laboratory Management
  4. Strong understanding of environmental analytical techniques
  5. Strong knowledge of environmental regulations,
  6. Knowledge of laboratory instruments and equipment
  7. Proven leadership and team management skills,
  8. Quality management skills such as experience in laboratory accreditation standards will be an advantage ,
  9. Familiarity with quality control and quality assurance principles,
  10. Minimum 3 years of  work experience  environmental analytical laboratory  or related laboratory services ,
  11. Excellent communication, interpersonal and client service skills, and
  12. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks,
