Proposed Fish Farming Project In Chanyanya Area Of Kafue District By Zamriver Fisheries Investment Limited

Zamriver Fisheries Investment Limited (ZFIL) intends to set up a fish farm on subdivision L and M of farm No. 329a in Chanyanya area of Kafue district, Lusaka province. The project site is approximately 25 kilometers from Kafue Central Business District and is located adjacent to the Kafue River with a spatial extent of 34.5 hectares. ZFIL intends to produce Tilapia fish commonly known as Bream (Oreochromis niloticus and Oreochromis andersonii) in fish ponds and plans to harvest 400 tonnes at initial stage and 2,000 tonnes of annual harvest at full operation stage. At full operation, the project envisages to construct the following:

i. 6 nursery ponds each having an area of 10m2 with a depth of 1.5m;
ii. 7 Broodstock ponds each having an area of 50m2 with a depth of 1.5m;
iii. 24 Production ponds covering a total of 23 hectares;
iv. 8 waste/effluent stabilization ponds covering a total of 3 hectares and a volume 300, 000m3;
v. An administration block and accommodation houses covering a total area of 929.49m2;
vi. A ware-house facility having a total area of 421.36m2;
vii. A workshop having a total area of 485.48m2;
viii. Two Parking lots with a total capacity to accommodate 34 vehicles; and
ix. Eleven guard houses each having an area of 10m2.
