Proposed Cooking Oil Processing Plant By Solvent Extraction On Stand No.5001 And 5960 Mumbwa Road In Lusaka District By Parrogate Ginneries Limited

Parrogate Ginneries Limited owns the Cooking oil processing plant located on Mumbwa Road in Lusaka. The Plant was established in the early 1960s. It originally operated under the name Refined Oil Products (RoP) Ltd. Then Cargill Zambia Limited (Trading as Zamanita) took over the operation of the plant in 2006 until towards the end of the year 2018 when the factory was closed down. In 2019 Parrogate Ginneries Limited acquired the plant from Cargill Zambia Limited. However, no Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was prepared prior to the establishment of the Plant. Therefore, to in order to ensure environmental sustainability during the operations of this plant, Parrogate Ginneries Limited conducted an EIA for the entire plant project. The project involves the extraction of oil from soya bean solely focuses on the manufacture of vegetable oils and lies within the framework of value addition of extracting oil from soya bean for market and human consumption. The main products in the processing cycle are soya bean oil, soya bean cake and soya hulls whilst by-products are coal ash as a waste product of the coal used in the boiler. Facilities/infrastructure at the site includes;

i. Main solvent extraction plant (with components such as water scrubber, chimney etc.),
ii. Security cabin
iii. Toilets, soak away/septic tank
iv. Laboratory
v. Administration office
vi. soya receiving shed
vii. preparation section
viii. packaging section
ix. boiler shed
x. Silo component
