CALL FOR COMMENTS
REVIEW OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT REPORT FOR THE PROPOSED JIFUMPA MINE EXPANSION PROJECT IN KASEMPA DISTRICT BY RUIDA INVESTMENTS LIMITED
Ruida Investments Limited is proposing to expand Jifumpa Mine under Licence Number 20584-HQ-LML. It is located 95 kilometres south of Kasempa District. The Licence Area covers a total area of 349.173 hectares. The mine foot print shall be 35 hectares.
The main project activities will include; site clearing, exploration, open pit development and mining, transportation of ore from mining areas to processing plant, processing of ore at the existing concentrator, improvement of the road systems and management of waste. The pit shall be 200 metres long, 120 metres wide and the deepest point shall be 105 metres. The pit shall be designed with a bench height of 7 metres and bench width of 4 metres. The copper resources are estimated at about 1.533 million tonnes. The investment cost is estimated at US$ 45 million.
The major components for the proposed project are as follows:
- Open pit;
- Overburden dump;
- Waste rock dump;
- Haulage roads;
- Fuel storage facility; and
- Sanitary waste management facilities
A total of nine (09) crop fields will be affected by the proposed project. The Developer has proposed to pay the affected farmers in cash.
In order to manage the impacts from the proposed project, Ruida Investments Limited has proposed environmental and socio-economic impacts management plans in the Environmental Impact Assessment Report.
This notice serves to inform members of the public, interested and affected parties that the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) has received the Environmental Impact Assessment Report in line with the provisions of the Environmental Management Act No. 12 of 2011 and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, Statutory Instrument No. 28 of 1997, for review. The report is available for scrutiny at the following places and websites:

Interested and affected parties may send their written submissions to the undersigned. The deadline for submission of comments is Friday, 1st March, 2019.
